Itinerary
The 8 stages, day by day
Departure from Ajaccio towards the eastern plain by crossing the mountainous heart of the island. The road gradually climbs through dense maquis and pine forests, crossing passes and valleys. Panoramas alternate between views of the Ajaccio gulf and discovery of the central massifs before the long descent to the eastern coast and Ghisonaccia.
Demanding stage leaving the eastern plain to climb towards the hilltop villages of Castagniccia. Sustained ascent crosses changing landscapes, from centuries-old chestnut forests to rocky ridges. The region reveals a rural and authentic Corsica, a territory of traditions where hamlets cling to mountain flanks. Arrival in Bustanico, a village of character nestled in the heights.
Continuation in the green labyrinth of Castagniccia, historic heart of Corsica. Winding roads serpentine between centuries-old chestnut forests and stone villages. Baroque church architecture testifies to this region's past wealth. Passes succeed each other, offering glimpses into enclosed valleys until Piedicroce.
Day dedicated to exploring this unique region, a true jewel of greenery in the heart of the island. The loop crosses the most beautiful hilltop villages, sanctuaries of the Corsican soul. Between demanding climbs and technical descents, the route unveils exceptional architectural heritage and landscapes of rare authenticity.
Transition between Castagniccia and Balagne via spectacular mountain roads. The itinerary crosses the ridges separating the eastern and western slopes, offering 360-degree panoramas. Progressive descent reveals Balagne, the garden of Corsica with flowery villages and century-old olive trees. Arrival in Feliceto, gateway to this blessed region.
Crossing of Balagne then swing towards the wild western coast. The Marsolinu pass unveils spectacular views over Calvi gulf. The road then plunges towards Galeria before climbing towards the mythical Palmarella pass, an exceptional viewpoint over Porto gulf. Final descent to this UNESCO World Heritage site.
Short but intense stage beginning with the ascent of the Vergio pass, Corsica's highest road pass. The road crosses the Spelunca gorges, a spectacular granite canyon. Passage through the sublime Aïtone forest and its majestic laricio pines before reaching Vico, a peaceful village overlooking Sagone gulf.
Last stage completing this full island tour. The road winds between mountains and coast, crossing hilltop villages and wild coves. The return to Ajaccio follows the gulf with changing colors, between deep blue and sparkling turquoise. Triumphant arrival in the imperial city, ending this cycling odyssey through the extraordinary diversity of the Island of Beauty.

The GT20 is the great cycling crossing of Corsica, from Bastia to Bonifacio over more than 600 km.
Cycling Corsica is one of its creators and offers several options:full GT20, GT20 North, GT20 South, and GT20 x GR20 for hybrid cycling & hiking enthusiasts.
Do you need to be fit to ride the GT20 in Corsica?
No. Thanks to premium electric bikes Riese & Mülller(VAE), the GT20 is accessible to all levels.
Cycling Corsica offers Discovery and Soft Adventure packages adapted to occasional cyclists, with assistance along the entire route.The electric bike allows you to tackle Corsican mountain passes comfortably and fully enjoy each stage.
Is cycling in Corsica dangerous ?
No. Our routes are designed to favor secondary roads and minimize traffic.
With tested itineraries, on-site assistance, and proper equipment, cycling in Corsica is safe under normal conditions.
How many days does it take to cycle across Corsica?
The Great Corsica crossing (GT20) typically takes between 6 and 10 days depending on the chosen package.
The duration varies based on your level, the type of bike (electric or not), and your preferred pace.
Shorter versions (North or South) are also available.
Does Cycling Corsica provide electric bikes?
Yes. We have our own fleet of premium trekking electric bikes, selected from the best brands.
Bikes are delivered to your starting point and collected at the end, anywhere in Corsica. No intermediaries — you rent directly from the operator.Can you rent an electric bike in Corsica without a tour?
Yes. Cycling Corsica offers “à la carte” electric bike rental in Corsica with on-site delivery.
Options include premium trekking e-bikes, road bikes for sporty riders, and family bikes with child seats. Ideal if you already have your itinerary and just need a reliable bike.Can I bring my own bike?

When is the best time for a cycling trip in Corsica?
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are the best seasons for cycling in Corsica:
ideal temperatures, quiet roads, and good accommodation availability.
Summer is possible, but mountain passes can be hot. Cycling Corsica operates from April to October with regular scheduled departures.Are meals included in the trips?
Depending on the package, breakfasts are generally included and some dinners may be offered.
You also have the freedom to explore local gastronomy at your own pace.Are the routes provided with GPS?
Yes. Routes are provided as GPS tracks, easy to download and follow on your smartphone.
